The Sanibel headboard, the first in a series by Claudia Hodges, features an underwater scene of sea fans, corals and starfish. It’s a familiar scene to Hodges, a hobby scuba diver.
“I designed the Sanibel for beach lovers and beach dwellers,” says Hodges. “It would look equally beautiful in a beach home, an inland home or a boutique hotel.”
Hodges hand carves each headboard from sustainable hardwoods, then applies a whitewash finish and antiquing technique that allows the natural grain to show through and highlight the details of the carving. It is padded and covered with a textured linen fabric. Because each one-of-a-kind piece is created by hand, clients and designers can choose custom stains and fabrics.
“The Sanibel is designed to be a focal point in a bedroom,” says Hodges, “to draw you into the corals and shells and remind you of the ocean, whether you live near it or just dream of it.”
The headboard shown is 61 1/8” wide by 63 1/8” high and fits a queen bed, but can be created to fit any size bed.
The wood is poplar that comes from Forest Stewardship Council certified sources. The fabric is textured linen.
